Six Mindfulness Exercises for Teams That Take Under Five Minutes
Short, secular mindfulness exercises any team can run at the start of a meeting, before a deadline, or after a hard call.
Most teams do not need a retreat. They need a few minutes of shared attention at the right moment. These exercises are short enough to put at the top of a meeting agenda without anyone groaning.
1. The one-minute arrival
Before the meeting starts, everyone stops typing and takes three slow breaths. That is it. It marks the line between the last thing and this thing.
2. Name the noise
Ask everyone to silently note the one thing pulling at their attention. Not share it — just name it to themselves. Naming a distraction loosens its grip.
3. Longer out-breath
Breathe in for four, out for six, for two minutes. A longer exhale is one of the simplest ways to settle a body that has been rushing. Useful before a pitch or a difficult conversation.
4. Feet on the floor
Thirty seconds of noticing where your feet touch the ground. It sounds trivial. It pulls attention out of the inbox and back into the room.
5. Single-task sprint
Agree on fifteen minutes where everyone works on one thing with notifications off. Mindfulness at work is often just doing one thing at a time on purpose.
6. The closing pause
End a long meeting with thirty seconds of quiet before people scatter. Decisions settle better when nobody is already halfway into the next call.
Going further
These work on their own, but a guided session teaches the skill behind them so it sticks. Workplace mindfulness workshops run onsite across Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, North York, and Richmond Hill, or over Zoom.
